Hello everyone!
Our concert ensembles are making good progress, and we're looking forward to sharing their work at our Fall Concert on Thursday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Minnie Evans Arts Center.
The work ahead
Having the whole marching show on the field is a milestone worth celebrating. Now we get to spend time making it something we can perform with confidence.
Over the next three weeks, much of our progress will come through details: listening across the ensemble, moving together, making a correction and carrying it into the next repetition. Those habits matter in our concert ensembles, too. Students are learning how their individual preparation affects the people around them and how to keep working when improvement takes patience.
Two weeks ago, I wrote about students taking ownership of our band culture. This is another part of that ownership—learning to recognize what needs attention and taking responsibility for making it better.
Friday gives us a chance to share that culture with our eighth-grade visitors. I want them to hear a good band and feel welcomed by the people in it. Learning someone’s name, helping them find their place and making room for them are small things that can shape how they imagine their future at Ashley.
Carnegie Hall
Our Carnegie Hall deposit has been submitted, and planning continues. We're working toward making this opportunity possible for everyone who wants to participate. We look forward to sharing more updates soon!
Friday night at Ashley
We're looking forward to welcoming our eighth-grade band students for Friday's home game against Laney! Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. on September 25.
Mattress fundraiser this Saturday
Our mattress fundraiser is Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Ashley full-size gym.
Please think of one family who may need a new mattress and personally invite them to come support Ashley Bands. A friend, relative, neighbor or coworker may be looking!
Two ways to help this week
Trailer drivers: We need additional volunteers with vehicles capable of pulling the band trailer. Home games involve moving it to the stadium before the game and back after halftime; competitions involve travel to and from the host school. You do not need to commit to every date. Please contact Hannah if you can help.
