Concert Ensembles

Wind Ensemble

The Bands of Ashley High School’s Wind Ensemble is the honors concert ensemble and main performance ensemble of the program. The ensemble only consists of auditioned members of the band program with director approval and performs NC Grade VI and college level literature. Students performing in the Wind Ensemble receive honors level credit.

Students in the Wind Ensemble are required to own a tuner, metronome, and recording device. The director encourages the use of a personal device (such as an iPhone/iPod or Android phone) if available.  While private lesson are not required, many students choose to take them and are encouraged to do so.

The Wind Ensemble has received consistent Superior ratings at the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Eastern District Music Performance Adjudication, most recently in Grade VI level repertoire. The ensemble also performs locally in Wilmington as requested by local organizations, including for the town of Carolina Beach and on the Battleship North Carolina for the yearly Naturalization Ceremony hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Concert Band

The Bands of Ashley High School’s Concert Band is the entry level concert ensemble and main concert ensemble of the program. The ensemble consists of all non-auditioned members of the band program and performs NC Grade IV and V literature.

Students in the Concert Band are required to own a tuner, metronome, and recording device. The director encourages the use of a personal device (such as an iPhone/iPod or Android phone) if available.  While private lesson are not required, many students choose to take them and are encouraged to do so.

The Concert has received consistent Superior and Excellent ratings at the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Eastern District Music Performance Adjudication. The ensemble is geared to training in the basics of wind playing and developing great rehearsal techniques.
